The Palace of Mirrors
The Aina Mahal, or Palace of Mirrors, is one of the finest heritage landmarks of Bhuj, Kutch. Built in the 18th century by Rao Lakhpatji, this palace is a masterpiece of Indo-European architecture, designed by the craftsman Ram Singh Malam, who blended local artistry with European influence.
The interiors are decorated with mirrors, glass, marble, and intricate carvings, giving the palace its name. Belgian chandeliers, Venetian-style glass, and ornate fountains still reflect the grandeur of Kutch's royal past.
Though partially damaged in the 2001 earthquake, Aina Mahal continues to attract visitors with its royal Durbar Hall, unique mirror work, and museum collection showcasing clocks, paintings, and artifacts from the bygone era.
